Online Korean Language Teacher – Speaking Classes

What is 90 Day Korean and what do we do?

We are an online Korean language learning website that helps students from all around the world learn about the Korean language and culture. We do this through a paid online membership that contains a structured Korean language course, a supportive online community, live group teaching sessions, and fun games and activities in our member’s area.

The goal of the program is to help the students learn to have a 3-minute conversation in Korean within the first 90 days. We also support our readers with free Korean language and culture content on our blog, YouTube channel, and other social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc).

Tasks – What will I be doing?

We are looking for a native Korean speaker who can help beginner-level Korean language students with speaking and pronunciation. The teacher should be able to explain Korean grammar and pronunciation in English.

We will prepare slides that match up with our speaking courses. The courses are around specific topics such as technology, hobbies, family, numbers, supermarkets, and nature.

The teacher will be demonstrating the correct pronunciation, and then give pronunciation for special cases. Then the students will read, and the teacher will give the students feedback.

There are usually between 2 and 8 students per class. The students often study the course material beforehand. The students are mostly beginners and need speaking practice. The contents of the slides are vocabulary, sentences, and dialogues.

Requirements – Am I the right person?

  • Native Korean speaker
  • Strong spoken English language skills
  • Cannot work from North America
  • Fast and reliable internet connection
  • Good computer and camera
  • Interest in teaching the Korean language to people around the world

Time Period

This job will start immediately and will be ongoing. Currently, the teacher will need to do 1 session per week. The frequency may change based on the needs of the students. There may be other opportunities if we find a teacher that is a good fit.

Compensation

30,000 – 80,000 KRW per class (about $25-65 USD), depending on experience (paid by bank transfer or PayPal). We may be able to pay in your local currency, depending on where you are.

Reliability

We have a zero-tolerance policy for cancellations. It’s critical that our Korean teachers are reliable and don’t cancel or have schedule changes. In the rare case that a schedule change is needed, we need at least 1 week’s advance notice. If our teacher misses a class without notice, we will terminate the agreement without compensation.

Schedule

We will coordinate the schedule in advance with the teacher. Usually, it will be one weekday and one weekend. The times will vary, usually around 10 am for the morning or around 7 pm for the evenings. All of the times below are in Korea time (KST).

Here is a sample schedule:

  • Week 1: Saturday – morning KST
  • Week 2: Wednesday – evening KST
  • Week 3: Saturday – evening KST
  • Week 4: Wednesday – morning KST

This can have some flexibility, such as changing the days and times. We will work with both the teachers and the students to come up with a convenient schedule for everyone.

We need to decide a month in advance so the students have time to prepare. Usually, one day is on the weekend, and one day is during the week. We alternate between morning and evening classes.

Can I choose the class time and day?

The class time and day have some flexibility, but they must be coordinated with the 90 Day Korean team. We will work with the teacher to find a good time and day.

We prefer to alternate between one weekday day (M-F) and one weekend day (Sat-Sun). One should be in the morning, and the other in the evening.

Equipment

The teacher should have a computer with a fast internet connection, a clear, noise-canceling microphone, no background noise, and a clear camera. The presentation will be done by screen share.

Software

We use Zoom and the teacher will log in using the company Zoom account. We use the Slack messaging app to communicate with our team.

Preparation work

15 minutes per class. We prepare the slides for the class in advance. You will need to look over the slides at least a week before the speaking session and make sure you are familiar with them. If you see any mistakes or anything that seems incorrect, please let us know so we can make adjustments.

Class time

60 minutes per session

Post-class work

5 minutes per class. Message us in Slack to let us know how the class went.

Sample session

You can watch a previous speaking session here. This was done by a native Korean speaker and a native English speaker.

Extra classes

It’s possible that this position can grow to have more classes each month. It depends on how the classes go, and if you would like to add more classes.
